چکیده

This paper presents a new perspective of the impact of information and collaboration technology (IT) on the work place and space. The study is at the intersection of the and new ways people behave in communicative events using the affordances of IT augmented spaces and content, i.e., interaction. The study proposes two hypotheses. Brick & Bits & Interaction Hypothesis: If we understanding the tight relationship between brick, bits, and interaction we will be able to-design spaces that better afford communicative events,-develop collaboration technologies based on natural idioms that best support the activities people perform,-engage people in rich communicative experiences that enable them to immerse in their activity and forget about the technology that mediates the interaction. Change Hypothesis: Any new information and collaboration technology will require change and rethinking of:-the design and location of spaces in which people work, learn, and play.-the content people create in terms of representation, media, interrelation among the different media, the content's evolution over time so that it provides context and sets it in a social communicative perspective-the interactions among people in terms of the individual's behavior, interaction dynamics, new communication protocols, collaboration processes; relation between people and the affordances of the space; and interactivity with the content of interest. The paper will discuss two information and collaboration technology examples in the context of the Brick & Bits & Interaction perspective and highlight the necessary changes that have to be considered in the deployment and use scenarios. The two information and collaboration technologies are: 1. a commercial synchronous collaboration technology for videoconferencing, MS

An Analysis of Teacher-student Interaction Patterns in a Robotics Course for Kindergarten Children: a Pilot Study

Compared with other media, programmable bricks provide children with the opportunity to create their own product and, through this process, to express creative thinking. Studies have found that learning robotics or integrating programming bricks into courses can help to develop students’ problem-solving abilities and enhance their learning performance. This study attempted to develop a one-to-o...

Three-dimensional structures self-assembled from DNA bricks.

We describe a simple and robust method to construct complex three-dimensional (3D) structures by using short synthetic DNA strands that we call "DNA bricks." In one-step annealing reactions, bricks with hundreds of distinct sequences self-assemble into prescribed 3D shapes. Each 32-nucleotide brick is a modular component; it binds to four local neighbors and can be removed or added independentl...

A Creative Improvisational Companion Based on Idiomatic Harmonic Bricks

We describe an improvisational companion based on the concept of harmonic bricks, as articulated by Cork and others. Our companion is software that can play background for, and trade melodies with, a human soloist. While exhibiting creativity itself, its greater purpose is to improve creativity of its user. Bricks, originally intended for memorization of chord progressions, are used here as a s...

High Performance Bricks from Fly Ash

Bricks whose solid ingredient is 100% fly ash have been manufactured. The manufacturing process uses techniques and equipment similar to those used in clay brick factories. The bricks produced were about 28% lighter than clay bricks. The bricks manufactured from fly ash possessed compressive strength higher than 40 MPa. This exceeds some of the best of load carrying clay bricks available by mor...
